Here are some of our favourite sunset spots.

1. Mwnt Beach
Few places are as iconic as Mwnt. The little white chapel overlooking the bay is one of the most photographed views in Wales, and for good reason.

As evening approaches, the cliffs glow in the warm light while the sea reflects the changing colours of the sky. If you're lucky, you may even spot dolphins swimming offshore as the sun goes down.

Top tip: Arrive at least an hour before sunset so you can enjoy the short walk down to the beach and find a comfortable place to sit.

2. Poppit Sands
Just a short drive from Trenewydd, Poppit Sands is one of our favourite places to end the day.

The wide sandy beach means there's always plenty of space, even during the summer holidays. As the tide goes out, the wet sand creates beautiful reflections that make for fantastic photographs. Poppit Sands is also an excellent choice if you're bringing your dog, with generous areas available for walking throughout the year.

3. Newport Sands
Newport Sands offers a completely different feel. The expansive beach looks west across Cardigan Bay, making it an excellent location for sunset lovers.

The gentle waves, surrounding dunes and distant headlands create a peaceful setting, while the nearby town of Newport has several excellent pubs and restaurants if you'd like to round off the evening with dinner.

4. Ceibwr Bay
If dramatic scenery is more your style, Ceibwr Bay is hard to beat.

Steep cliffs, rocky coves and crashing waves provide an unforgettable backdrop as the evening light softens across the coastline. The cliffs above the bay are ideal for photographers looking to capture the rugged beauty of Pembrokeshire.

It's a wonderful place for a quiet evening away from the crowds.

5. Aberporth
Aberporth combines beautiful beaches with a friendly seaside atmosphere.

Watch the sunset from the beach, stroll along the promenade, or enjoy fish and chips while the sky changes colour over Cardigan Bay.

This stretch of coastline is also one of the best places in Wales to spot bottlenose dolphins, so keep an eye on the water as daylight fades.

6. Cardigan Island Coastal Viewpoint
Although the island itself is a private wildlife reserve, the nearby viewpoints offer spectacular panoramic views across the sea. The elevated position provides one of the best opportunities to watch the sunset while enjoying the dramatic coastline stretching towards Gwbert and beyond.

Birdwatchers may also spot seabirds returning to their nesting sites as evening approaches.

7. Tresaith Beach and The Ship Inn
Tresaith is a beautiful little cove where golden sand, rugged cliffs and a waterfall flowing onto the beach combine to create a stunning setting for a summer sunset. As the evening light fades, the views across Cardigan Bay are simply spectacular.

Afterwards, enjoy a meal or a drink at The Ship Inn, whose terrace overlooks the beach and is the perfect place to watch the colours change across the sea.

Tips for the Perfect Sunset
To make the most of your evening, we recommend:

* Checking the sunset time before you set out.
* Taking a light jacket, as coastal evenings can become cool even after warm days.
* Bringing a picnic or enjoying takeaway fish and chips on the beach.
* Packing a camera or smartphone. The colours often become even more vibrant after the sun has dipped below the horizon.
* Allowing time to stay for another twenty minutes after sunset, when the sky often puts on its most spectacular display.

• Visit a local distillery - In The Welsh Wind. Just a short drive away, this open distillery offers tours of their stills and facilities, so you can see how their Welsh gin is made. If you fancy a relaxed treat, they run Gin-Making Experiences, Gin-Tasting sessions, or even Cocktail Masterclasses on certain days. It’s a nice indoor option for a colder day and makes a lovely treat, especially when combined with a cosy evening. 
• Explore quiet coastal or woodland walks. Winter transforms the coastal paths and woodland trails into tranquil, sometimes dramatic, walking grounds. The coast paths in West Wales remain accessible, with waves, sea-air and rugged scenery delivering their own kind of winter magic. 
• Storm-watch or do a dramatic beach walk. Winter storms along the coast of West Wales can make for spectacular scenery; dramatic waves, crisp sea-air, and wild skies. It’s a great time for storm-watching or simply taking a brisk seaside walk, wrapping up warm and breathing in the bracing air. 
• Spot wildlife, cosy up indoors or discover hidden gems. With fewer tourists, winter can bring peaceful wildlife-spotting (coastal birds, sea life, maybe even seals), and visits to small local towns or villages feel calmer and more personal. Local cafés, pubs or small shops stay open in many places, offering a warm respite after a walk.

Just a few minutes from Trenewydd, Poppit Sands is a classic for good reason. With its wide-open beach, gentle shallows, and endless sky, there’s plenty of space for children (and dogs) to run around while the sun melts into the horizon. Pack a blanket and a few snacks, and you’ve got an easy, fuss-free family evening out.

Mwnt – Clifftop Views & Dolphin Spotting
A short drive away, Mwnt offers one of the best vantage points for sunsets in West Wales. Climb the headland above the little white chapel and you’ll be rewarded with sweeping coastal views. Families often spot dolphins playing in the bay below as the sky turns orange and pink—an unforgettable experience for little ones.

Aberporth – Ice Cream & Evening Light
If your family likes to end the day with a treat, head to Aberporth. Two sheltered sandy beaches are perfect for a paddle, and you can grab an ice cream before finding a spot on the promenade to watch the colours change. It’s a quieter alternative to busier beaches, and the calm waters are especially good for younger children.

Penbryn – Woodland Walk to Golden Sands
For something a bit different, take the short woodland path down to Penbryn Beach. The walk itself feels like an adventure, and the reward is a golden sandy stretch that faces west—ideal for watching the sunset. With cliffs framing the beach on either side, it feels like your own private theatre for nature’s nightly show.

Back at the Cottage – Hot Tub Stargazing
Of course, sometimes the best sunset spot is right at Trenewydd. Many of our cottages have private enclosed gardens with hot tubs, making it easy to slip into the warm bubbles just as the sky deepens into twilight.
